The Price of Inflation: A Jollibee Hotdog's Tale
 
Ten years ago, fresh out of college and into my first banking job in the Philippines, a Jollibee hotdog was a small luxury I could afford. It wasn't just any hotdog; it was a culinary event. An almost eight-inch behemoth of a steamed hotdog nestled in a soft bun, generously laden with cheese, mayonnaise, and ketchup – ayos indeed! It was a delicious treat, a comforting familiarity in the bustling city. The sheer size, the generous toppings, it was a memorable experience, a far cry from the typical hotdog bun. I wasn't even a huge fan of hotdog buns, but Jollibee's somehow transcended my usual preference.
 
Yesterday, a wave of nostalgia prompted me to order the same Jollibee hotdog. The experience, however, was markedly different. The hotdog, once a king-sized delight, was noticeably smaller. The cheese and mayonnaise, once overflowing, were now more restrained. The overall feeling was one of…diminishment. It wasn't shocking, of course. Inflation's relentless march has been felt across the board, impacting everything from the price of rice to transportation costs. But seeing this tangible change in a beloved childhood treat brought the harsh reality of inflation into sharp focus.
 
This isn't merely about a smaller hotdog; it's a microcosm of the larger economic picture. It's a symbol of the rising cost of living, the constant adjustments we make to our budgets, the sacrifices we sometimes have to endure. The Jollibee hotdog, once a simple pleasure, now carries the weight of economic anxieties. It's a reminder that the seemingly small changes, the subtle reductions in portion size or quality, are the cumulative effect of inflation, slowly eroding our purchasing power. It's a silent, yet persistent, price we all pay. The shrinking hotdog is a poignant reminder of the ever-increasing cost of everyday life in the Philippines.

STORY TIME: My Angkas Adventures - 02/19/2025   Pag-out ko today sa work, nag-book ako ng Angkas para umuwi ng bahay. Excited na ako kasi pagod na pagod na ako! Pag-exit ko ng building, may nakita akong Angkas na nakapark sa tapat. I mouthed the rider's name "Jerry?" to confirm, and kuya nodded. Feeling ko, ako na ang pinaka-efficient na pasahero ever! A Movie Review: Captain America: New Brave World 2025

Captain America: New Brave World - A Simple Review   Last Wednesday night, I found myself slumped in a Glorietta 4 cinema seat, half-awake and facing the daunting prospect of Captain America: New Brave World. Now, to be completely upfront, I'm not exactly a die-hard MCU devotee. My knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, shall we say, patchy.
