A Review - Green Bones: A Surprisingly Moving MMFF Experience
 
Okay, so everyone was screaming about Green Bones, this MMFF 2024 film starring Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid. They said it was THE movie to see, the cinematic event of the season. Me? I’m a cheapskate. Movie tickets? An unnecessary expense in my book. But the hype… the sheer, relentless hype… it was like a siren song, luring me away from my Netflix-and-chill routine. So, there I was, MRT ticket clutched in my hand, heading to Trinoma to experience this supposed masterpiece firsthand. No Netflix wait for this diva!
 
The first thirty minutes? Let's just say my eyelids got a serious workout. The pacing was glacial, slower than a sloth on tranquilizers. It was a total snoozefest; I swear, I aged five years just sitting there. The plot? Predictable as the sunrise. I saw the twists coming from a mile away; I could practically write the script myself. I was mentally adding subtitles: "Oh, that's going to happen." "Yep, saw that one coming." "Surprise, surprise…"
 
But here’s the weird thing: despite the glacial pace and the "I've-seen-this-a-million-times" plot, I found myself… hooked. It’s like the movie was a slow-burning fuse, steadily building tension until the grand finale. And that, my friends, is the magic of Green Bones.
 
The simplicity of the storyline is actually its strength. It allowed the phenomenal acting to shine. And shine it did! This cast was emotionally invested in their roles; it wasn't just acting, it was living. I'm not kidding, I cried more watching this than I did during the entire And the Breadwinner is with Vice Ganda! (And that movie is a tearjerker!). Dennis Trillo? Masterclass. Ruru Madrid? A revelation. Seriously, I'm now a fan.
 
Now, I understand the slow burn. The writers weren’t just telling a story; they were crafting a character study, giving us time to connect with these people before throwing them into the emotional blender. The slow start wasn't a flaw; it was a deliberate choice to build empathy and anticipation.
 
Sure, there were a few plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, and some scenes were a bit… over-the-top. But honestly? I forgave them. The stunning backdrop, the sharp, witty dialogue, and the masterful direction completely overshadowed any minor shortcomings.
 
Final verdict? Despite my initial skepticism (and the snoozefest in the first act), Green Bones was totally worth it. It’s a testament to the power of great acting and storytelling, proving that even a predictable plot can be utterly captivating when executed with such skill and passion.

In my dream, it felt like we were in a different world, accompanied by our family. It felt like we were inside the terminal of an airplane.
